These steps describe the process that end users must follow to install GIAS and run the application on their machines.

Preparing a Windows Machines:
Before you run the GIAS executable on a machine *without* Matlab, you must install a version of Matlab onto your machine. To do this:

1) Install the Matlab Compiler Runtime (MCR) software by running the MCR Installer in a directory. To do this, run MCRInstaller.exe in a directory called for example, C:\MCR
(i.e. place it into the required directory and double click to install a 'headless' version of MATLAB).
Note: You *must* also have administrative privileges to install the MCR on a target machine since it makes modifications to both the system registry and the system path. Note that running the executable after the MCR has been set up on the target machine only requires user-level privileges. Do this *once* to install the MCR - it looks like a MATLAB install - there should be install windows guiding you through.

Note: Add the following directory to your system path so that the GIAS_v03.exe file knows where to look for the Matlab programme. <mcr_root>\<ver>\runtime\win32 [To do this, right-click on the My Computer icon on the desktop, Click on the Advanced tab, Click on the lower left button called 'Environment Variables', then click on the line 'Path' in the Systems Variables pane. At the end of the line of other variabes, paste in the location of the MCR files e.g. on my system it is under: C:\Program Files\MathWorks\MATLAB Component Runtime\v73\runtime\win32. Be careful not to erase the other information on the Path. Otherwise the computer may start to misbehave.]

2) Now copy the GIAS executable (GIAS_v03.ctf) and CTF archive to your application root directory, for example, C:\GIAS.

3) Now double-click on the GIAS_v03.exe file - a MS-DOS window appears. Note it might take up to a minute to start running the first time (as in the background Matlab is starting up).

4) Use the GUI (see the HelpFiles Directory for more information).

Note: If an error happens, a message will appear in the MS-DOS box. If you get no response from the application, it may be best to Quit and restart. Remember to have the the GIAS_Logo.png filed and the svkdata directory in the directory you are running the GIAS_v03.exe from, as these are files the GIAS_v03.exe loads in when running.

5) There are help files and a powerpoint presentation showing how to get started in the HelpFiles directory. We have also included a set of test data (in Test Data) for you.
